Abstract:

While being extremely easy to obtain, Open Source Software comes with its own set of IP issues. Buyers and vendors need to be aware of the different types of open source licenses and how different open source communities deal with IP issues. This session will first discuss the different styles of open source licenses and their implications on use within an enterprise or a vendor. It will also discuss the best practices used by the Eclipse Foundation, a leading open source community, to ensure the Eclipse open source projects address many of the IP issues. Attendees of this session will gain a better appreciation for how to deal with the risk and benefits of open source IP.
