		<title>EclipseCon 09: Eclipse Swordfish - an Open Source SOA Runtime Framework for the Enterprise </title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/725</link>
		<description>

  Oliver Wolf (SOPERA), Dietmar Wolz (SOPERA)

	Abstract:

	  The Eclipse SOA Runtime Framework Project (codename Swordfish) aims to provide an extensible framework that enables developers to create business applications following service-oriented principles. Building upon Apache ServiceMix and Equinox, the Eclipse Foundation&#039;s OSGi implementation, Swordfish adds enterprise features such as policy-controlled message processing, dynamic lookup of service metadata using a Service Registry and extensive monitoring and management capabilities, all based on 7 years of SOA experience gained at Deutsche Post. In this talk, we&#039;ll introduce the audience to the basic architecture of Swordfish, highlight some of the features and give an update on the current state and the near-term and mid-term plans. Special focus will be laid on the extension points provided Swordfish, including a live demonstration of its capabilities.

		<title>EclipseCon 09: Enterprise Build System - Model Driven Architecture on PDE Build Runtime </title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/711</link>
		<description>

  Kagan Turgut (Brane Corporation)

	Abstract:

	  When delivering a new Build and Release System to meet the needs of a large Enterprise, we were forced to think outside the box to meet some challenging requirements. We needed an extensible foundation to provide a comprehensive solution to cover all aspects of build and release (including publishing to update sites, P2 repositories, download and distribution portals). We chose to leverage the powerful features of PDE Build, rather than starting from scratch.

In this presentation we will demonstrate how we applied Model Driven Architecture (MDA) to develop a Release Engineering Suite that met our requirements. The demo will include defining a build configuration using the Graphical UI, as well as extending the command framework to cover additional tasks such as converting regular projects into OSGI and running Eclipse builders (such as Code Generators) as part of build steps. We will demonstrate how we put together a fully functional RCP UI for the Releng Suite, declaratively drastically cutting our development time. The demo will also include workspace materialization: with a single click a developer will enter the URL of the build configuration file which embeds the source project mapping information that is used for the build.

This video was recorded at EclipseCon 2009.

		<title>EclipseCon 09: Executing BPMN</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/707</link>
		<description>

  Koen Aers (JBoss)

	Abstract:

	  The Business Process Management (BPM) and workflow landscape is a real jungle in which it is difficult to find one&#039;s way. It is only very recently that some convergence starts to appear around some of the many standards in this domain. One of the winners seems to be the Business Process Modelling Notation (BPMN). As the term states this standard is focused around the notational aspects of business process models. But the cry for execution of these processes has lead to diverse mappings to other languages such as BPEL that are specifically targeted towards this purpose. The good news is that BPMN 2.0 will include execution semantics so that processes can be executed natively on engines with this capability.

During this talk, we will describe how jBPM 4 is able to execute your BPMN models. We will show you how the concepts of the jPDL language for jBPM 4 are semantically equivalent to the concepts that BPMN defines. You will be able to see that this way of working brings business analysts and software developers together and makes them collaborate to effectively execute the modeled processes.

This video was recorded at EclipseCon 2009.

		<title>Swordfish Update with Oliver Wolf</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/699</link>
		<description>

  Michael Coté (Redmonk), Oliver Wolf (Sopera)

	Abstract:

	  Michael Coté sat down with Oliver Wolf from Sopera at EclipseCon this year, to talk about the newly announced Swordfish - Eclipse&#039;s SOA project. Having talked about Swordfish before in RedMonkTV, Coté asks Oliver to quickly catch us up since their last discussion. Swordfish has announced their release date (which has occurred since this was filmed), including all the compliance and IP cleaning.

Oliver then gives us a very quick overview of Swordfish, a runtime for implementing SOAs. Coté asks Oliver what Swordfish&#039;s general philosophy on SOA is. As Oliver explains, it starts from a decentralized ESB. They then discuss what this decentralization means for Swordfish&#039;s various SOA components. Coté then asks how Swordfish came to be and where the project is now.

Getting back to the type of SOA that Swordfish embodies, Coté asks Oliver what types of workloads Swordfish is suited for. Having announced Swordfish at EclipseCon 2009, and presenting more than five sessions on the topic, Coté asks Oliver how it&#039;s been received and what people have been asking. Finally, Oliver tells us how Swordfish fits into the overall Eclipse Runtime strategy.

Total running time 10:50 minutes

		<title>Bridging SOA Editors in Eclipse STP with the Intermediate Model</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/505</link>
		<description>

  Adrian Mos (INRIA)

	Abstract:

	  Designing and developing systems based on a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) involves different approaches and perspectives ranging from process definition to individual service construction and architectural composition. The Eclipse STP top-level project provides several editors across the SOA space, including BPMN, BPEL, SCA, JBI, JAX-WS and Policy editors. Each editor covers part of the specification of a complete SOA system and it is essential that there be a consistent approach to unify all these parts into a coherent whole.

This webinar will introduce you to the STP Intermediate Model (STP-IM) component, a recent addition to Eclipse STP. STP-IM is meant as a &quot;bridge&quot; between editors. Its elements have the role of conceptual transport between different development spaces with the purpose to capture as much common SOA design information from different editors as possible. In particular, it aims to bridge the workflow and process world (BPMN / BPEL) with the architecture specification world (SCA / JBI) and the service creation world (such as JAX-WS). After a brief overview of the STP-IM structure, the webinar will continue with a practical demonstration of how the STP-IM can be leveraged when developing SOA elements with several STP editors.

Total running time 1 hour, 01:09 minutes

Thanks to Adobe for contributing their Adobe Acrobat Connect product to host this webinar.

		<title>Eclipse Service Oriented Device Architecture (SODA)</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/459</link>
		<description>

  Andy Smith, Michael Coté (RedMonk)

	Abstract:

	  In this two part screencast, Michael Coté talks with Andy Smith about the Eclipse SODA project, part of the Eclipse OHF effort.

In the first part, Andy gives us an overview of the device populated network with edge and centralized servers that SODA services. He then explains the Stepstone use-case for in-home medical monitoring devices that serves as an example use of SODA.
Total running time 16:01 minutes

In the second part, Andy demos how the dynamic nature of SODA, provided by Eclipse Equinox, allows for the easy, dynamic deployment and use of remote devices. Also, be sure to check out the A Smarter World for Charley for the Charley scenario mentioned.
