		<title>Eclipse Day at the Googleplex: Developing for Android with Eclipse</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/804</link>
		<description>

  Xavier Ducrohet (Google)

	Abstract:

	  Eclipse is the recommended way to develop applications for Android. The Android SDK comes with an official set of Eclipse plug-ins called the Android Development Tools (ADT). ADT provides features such as custom builders, advanced editors for Android XML files, debugging on emulators and devices, and on-device testing.

This talk will show how to use ADT alongside the Android SDK to create, debug, profile and publish Android applications.

Total running time 56:11 minutes

This video was recorded at Eclipse Day at the Googleplex.

		<title>EclipseCon 09: Building Communities - the Rise and Fall and Rise of the CDT Project </title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/739</link>
		<description>

  Doug Schaefer (Wind River)

	Abstract:

	  The CDT celebrates its 7th anniversary in June 2009. It&#039;s been quite a journey and we&#039;ve learned a lot on what to do and what not to do to build a community that can keep the project running for this long.

This talk takes a trip down memory lane presenting the history of the CDT, the decisions we faced, the choices we made and whether they worked or not, and what we would have done differently. The hope is that these open source life lessons are helpful for others who are embarking down this journey as well, or are stuck in the quagmire of a bad project environment and are looking for a way to get out.

This talk also gives some insight into the culture of the CDT project and, for those who have been lurking for years, to show that we&#039;re not bad people and it won&#039;t hurt to contribute.

This video was recorded at EclipseCon 2009.

		<title>Reminder - Reverse Debugging, Multi-Process and Non-Stop Debugging Come to the CDT </title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/732</link>
		<description>

  Marc Khouzam (Ericsson AB), Francois Chouinard (Ericsson AB)

	Abstract:

	  With Galileo, DSF-GDB will be part of the CDT as an enhanced alternative to the current CDI solution for debugging C/C++ applications. This webinar will show why Ericsson opted for the Debugging Services Framework (DSF) for some of its platforms and contributed to DSF-GDB, a full-fledge debugger integration. This webinar will then cover the main aspects of DSF, the GDB enhancements that were sponsored and their marriage into DSF-GDB.

A demo of DSF-GDB will illustrate the standard debugging functions but also the recent GDB additions such as Reverse debugging, Multi-Process and Non-stop multi-thread debugging. An overview of our experience in developing DSF-GDB using DSF, will be given. Finally, the latest GDB and DSF-GDB features and enhancements will be presented.

After this talk, the CDT end-user will be familiar with the new debugging features provided by DSF-GDB. In addition, the debugger integrator will have an insight into the possibilities offered by DSF and DSF-GDB, for customized solutions.

Total running time will be approximately 1 hour

9:00 am PDT / 12:00 pm EDT / 4:00 pm GMT - Convert to other time zones

Thanks to Adobe for contributing their Adobe Acrobat Connect product to host this webinar.

		<title>EclipseCon 09: Convergence in Device Software - Use the TmL Project to Create Tools for Mobile Linux Developers</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/720</link>
		<description>

  Eric Cloninger (Motorola), Mauren Brenner (Eldorado Research Institute), Fabio Rigo (Eldorado Research Institute)

	Abstract:

	  Device convergence is continuing at a rapid pace. The simplest phones do much more than making calls; home entertainment units support Bluetooth®, Wi-Fi®, and Ethernet stacks; and GPS units are making location awareness important in many aspects of our daily lives. In the past, these devices were created with a &quot;hard&quot; real-time OS, but in the fast-changing consumer device market, more companies are switching to Linux to reap the benefits of the royalty-free kernel and the familiar development model. However, short development cycles and the lack of early hardware prototypes make embedded and mobile Linux projects more difficult than they need to be.

The Eclipse DSDP/TmL (Tools for Mobile Linux) project provides a framework to integrate emulator technologies and an environment for simulating the connection between real world devices into the Eclipse platform. These tools are essential for embedded Linux and mobile developers who need to get work done in an agile world, especially because often their devices are not still available. TmL allows device vendors to test their devices before they have physical hardware. Motorola uses the TmL project in its MOTODEV Studio products to give third party developers an opportunity to work with new APIs before phones are available on the market. With early access to tools, APIs and a run-time environment, application developers can get a jump start on their competition.

Use this opportunity to learn about the TmL project and how to use its features to create tools for your development community.
This video was recorded at EclipseCon 2009.

		<title>Jetty at Eclipse</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/697</link>
		<description>

  Michael Coté (Redmonk), Greg Wilkins (Webtide), Adam Lieber (Webtide)

	Abstract:

	  While at EclipseCon this year, Michael Coté had the chance to talk with Greg Wilkins and Adam Lieber of Webtide. Just the night before Greg and Adam had checked code into the Eclipse Foundation repositories to finish up adding Jetty as an Eclipse project. They start out discussing Jetty’s new Eclipse home. They also explain how Jetty has changed since its start as a small, embedded web server and different scenarios where Jetty can be, and is, used. For example, it&#039;s used as a component for application servers and surprisingly, in Android and Windows Mobile phones.

Next up, Coté asks why they choose to dock themselves in Eclipse. Along with this, Greg and Adam talk about the way Jetty is being run in Eclipse as components and how that relates to them being assembled in the existing CodeHaus repository. To close out, Coté asks how Jetty will fit into the general Eclipse Runtime projects and vision.

As a post-script, not too long after we recorded this video, the Webtide folks discovered that Google AppEngine is using Jetty to aid in Java support.
