		<title>JIRA Connector for Mylyn</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/442</link>
		<description>

  Mik Kersten (Tasktop Technologies), Michael Coté (RedMonk)

	Abstract:

	  In this demo, Michael Coté of RedMonk talks with Mik Kersten, who demonstrates the JIRA connector for Mylyn. Mik shows how the JIRA connector is used to provide a rich, desktop interface for the JIRA issue tracker and then shows how the “self micro-managing” features of Mylyn layer on-top of JIRA.

Be sure to view the video in full-screen mode or download one of the larger sized videos if needed. See the blip.tv page for all sorts of different formats and cross-posting options.

About Mylyn
The Eclipse project Mylyn is the Task-Focused UI for Eclipse that reduces information overload and makes multi-tasking easy. It does this by making tasks a first class part of Eclipse, and integrating rich and offline editing for repositories such as Bugzilla, Trac, and JIRA. Once your tasks are integrated, Mylyn monitors your work activity to identify information relevant to the task-at-hand, and uses this task context to focus the Eclipse UI on the interesting information, hide the uninteresting, and automatically find what&#039;s related.

		<title>Eclipse EMF Demo - a Complete Modeling Platform for Java</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/333</link>
		<description>

  Ed Merks (IBM), Michael Coté (RedMonk)

	Abstract:

	  Coté talks with Ed Merks about the Eclipse Modeling Framework project, or EMF. Ed gives us a quick overview of the framework and new features and then walks us through designing a model in EMF, generating code, and then round-tripping back and forth. Watching the demo, you can see how EMF could be used to create data models at the begining of a project and then maintain them throughout.

		<title>Eclipse DTP Screencast</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/332</link>
		<description>

  John Graham (Sybase), Michael Coté (RedMonk)

	Abstract:

	  This 4th Eclipse Europa screencast from Michael Coté is on the Data Tools Platform project, or DTP. As with all Eclipse projects, DTP provides quite a bit of platform plumbing, but in this screencast we see many of the more end-user facing tools that are available in the Europa bundle. Most interesting to Coté&#039;s unit testing memories of woes is the DbUnit integration. As he comments in the screencast, the SQL query tools look like they’d have been a good enough way to graphically browse various databases without having to pony up cash.

For detailed viewing, check out the larger sized video and the larger Flash version.

		<title>Mylyn Conversation and Demo</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/325</link>
		<description>

  Mik Kersten, Michael Coté (RedMonk)

	Abstract:

	  The third installment in Redmonk&#039;s Eclipse Europa screencast series is now up, this time on Mylyn, formally known as Mylar.

Michael has mentioned Mylyn/Mylar several times before — here and most recently in the context of Europa — an it’s one of his favorite Eclipse projects.

Mylyn is a Task-Focused UI for Eclipse that reduces information overload and makes multi-tasking easy. This puts the information you need to get work done at your fingertips and improves productivity by reducing searching, scrolling, and navigation. By making task context explicit Mylyn also facilitates multitasking, planning, reusing past efforts, and sharing expertise.

For detailed viewing, check out the larger sized video.

		<title>Reporting with Eclipse Europa BIRT</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/317</link>
		<description>

  Virgil Dodson (Actuate), Michael Coté (RedMonk)

	Abstract:

	  Michael Coté talks with Virgil Dodson, Java Reporting Evangelist at Actuate about the new features in Eclipse BIRT. BIRT is an Eclipse project that allows you to connect to various data sources, build reports with those sources, and the UIs needed for your end-users to view those reports.

		<title>OSGi on the Server-side: Eclipse Europa Equinox Demo</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/313</link>
		<description>

  Jeff McAffer (IBM), Michael Coté (RedMonk)

	Abstract:

	  In this screencast, Michael Coté talks with Eclipse Equinox project lead Jeff McAffer about the new version of the Eclipse Equinox OSGi framework in Eclipse Europa. We see a demo of the the new server-side capabilities in Equinox and the development model used. The notion of &quot;modules&quot; and &quot;components&quot; is fast becoming an important topic in the Java world, so it&#039;s interesting to see the Eclipse platform&#039;s framework moving from the desktop to the server.

		<title>Bring Java Back to the Desktop: Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP)</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/297</link>
		<description>

  Mike Taylor (Instantiations), Mike Milinkovich (Eclipse Foundation)

	Abstract:

	  Milinkovich, in summarizing the benefits of the RCP approach, said, &quot;This is about bringing Java back to the desktop,&quot; a thought which both he and Taylor said applies to all developers. As an example, when questioned about its benefits to current .NET developers, Milinkovich noted that, &quot;For programmers who program in C#, for example, it&#039;s not a big jump. And the fact that developers can build, deploy, and manage applications on multiple desktops and operating systems make this a differentiator.&quot;

Instantiations CEO Mike Taylor outlined a number of the key benefits of his company&#039;s product, RCP Developer, which the Instantiations website notes is designed &quot;to accelerate the creation of Eclipse RCP applications by providing tools for constructing and testing graphical user interfaces and packaging rich client applications for deployment.&quot;
