		<title>Eclipse Embedded Day 2009 Video - Managing Open Source Legal Issues</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/835</link>
		<description>

  Janet Campbell (Eclipse Foundation)

	Abstract:

	  The legal issues of using and contributing to open source projects are often a source of confusion. In this session, we will focus on the key aspects of open source licensing. The session will also outline how the Eclipse Foundation provides the legal framework for industry collaboration through the use of Working Groups to facilitate the creation and growth of innovation networks. As part of this, the session will examine how the Eclipse Foundation manages contributions of intellectual property to Eclipse projects and undertakes due diligence to give our downstream consumers greater comfort as they use and distribute Eclipse technology.

Janet Campbell is Legal Counsel &amp; Manager, Intellectual Property at the Eclipse Foundation and is responsible for the review of intellectual property proposed for inclusion in Eclipse open source projects. This review includes examining both the provenance of the intellectual property and license compatibility.

		<title>Eclipse Embedded Day 2009 Video - Eclipse-based IS2T Embedded Tools</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/822</link>
		<description>

  Emmanuel Vertongen

	Abstract:

	  IS2T, thanks to Eclipse, has optimized a tool chain for agile development of embedded systems : MicroJvm™ Java virtual machine (footprint of roughly 50KB), and their associated embedded libraries (ESRs), allow a brand new system/device design process called Drag Emb &#039;Drop™ which focuses on cost reduction and better time-to-market.

For the customization of platforms (adding new peripherals for instance), IS2T now offers a platform design tool called MicroBSP. This tool, based on IS2T proprietary Java-like language Ice Tea, relies on IDT, a customization of existing JDT of Eclipse, and CDT for the reuse of existing C drivers.

IS2T tool chain for agile development of high-tech/low costs embedded systems was achieved by combining benefits of Eclipse and Jazz RTC.

		<title>Provisioning RCP Applications with p2</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/789</link>
		<description>

  Ian Bull (EclipseSource)

	Abstract:

	  The p2 provisioning platform has replaced Update Manager as a mechanism for managing Eclipse based applications. While p2 is most notably recognized for managing Eclipse installs, p2 has been designed as a general purpose provisioning platform for OSGi and Eclipse RCP.

In this webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use p2 to manage your own RCP based application. We will present examples of how you can include the p2 provisioning platform in your existing RCP application to support: 1) software installs, 2) system upgrades, and 3) configuration management. In particular, we will demonstrate how you can:

Make use of the p2 provisioning platform for software management
Integrate the creation of p2 repositories into your build system
Reuse the p2 user interface and existing work-flows
Customize the p2 user interface for your specific needs
Debug common pitfalls

The webinar assumes a basic understanding of what RCP development is. No prior p2 experience is needed.

Part 1 - Total running time 29:03 minutes
Part 2 - Total running time 31:41 minutes

		<title>Eclipse Embedded Day 2009 Video - Profiling Java Applications</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/781</link>
		<description>

  Dr. Dimitar Valtchev (Prosyst)

	Abstract:

	  Java in general and more specifically J2ME, is the platform of choice for providing application models for various embedded devices such as residential gateways, telematics systems and mobile phones. The usage of profiling tools is a must for creating efficient and reliable Java applications. A rich set of profilers and other optimizations tools are available as stand alone applications or as plug-ins for the leading Java IDEs, but most of them are targeted only for desktop systems and are not applicable for embedded systems with restricted resources.

This presentation deals with an approach for profiling embedded Java applications, which takes into account the need to profile the Java applications directly on the embedded device without significantly influencing the system behavior. This is achieved by designing and installing a profiling agent on the target device which communicates actively with the developer PC and consumes minimal system resources.

This approach is applied for creating an Eclipse plug-in which will be presented during the session.

		<title>OSGi and Equinox Jumpstart</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/762</link>
		<description>

  Chris Aniszczyk (EclipseSource), Jeff McAffer (EclipseSource)

	Abstract:

OSGi has been in the press a lot lately. Everywhere you turn there is some new product or project adopting the technology. From Eclipse to Apache to Spring. From servers to desktops to embedded. OSGi enables the creation of highly modular, dynamic Java-based systems.

Wondering what it&#039;s all about? Join book author and Equinox OSGi project co-lead Jeff McAffer and PDE OSGi tooling lead Chris Aniszczyk from EclipseSource for an introduction to Equinox and OSGi concepts and a look at the breadth and depth of technology available in this space.

This mini-course is designed to give you a clear understanding of the essential concepts, facilities and advantages of this key technology. This session will be of use to anyone interested in building flexible systems in Java. It is particularly useful for technical managers and decision makers to help them better understand the overall runtime technology.

		<title>Empowering Business Users</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/767</link>
		<description>

  James Taylor (Decision Management Solutions), Volker Grossmann (Innovations)

	Abstract:

	  Business Users as Active Participants in Application Development

Successful companies are increasingly involving business users in application development – empowering business users to be active participants rather than just passive recipients. Because business users bring business know-how and expertise to bear, those who are active participants improve both IT and business results. Traditional application development approaches and technologies exclude business users, and so a new approach is needed.

In this presentation, the speakers will discuss how a decision-centric approach and business rules technology, such as the Visual Rules Enterprise Platform, involve and include business users throughout the development process – from modeling to testing to deployment. Real-world examples will be used to show how empowering business users to be active participants in this way increases business agility, shortens time to value for new applications, and reaps great cost savings in application maintenance.

		<title>Take Control of Eclipse in Your Enterprise: Pulse Private Label</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/764</link>
		<description>

  A. Visser (Genuitec)

	Abstract:

	  While Eclipse is pervasive in most businesses, the headaches that come with the delivery and management of Eclipse are magnified when corporate standards are mandated. What software can developers use? How are they using it? How is it updated? How is it standardized in a user-friendly manner for both managers and developers?

These questions and more are answered for you, as we explore the possibilities with Pulse Private Label.
