		<title>Reminder - Overview of the Eclipse Development Process for Committers</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/837</link>
		<description>

  Wayne Beaton (Eclipse Foundation)

	Abstract:

	  The Eclipse Development Process (EDP) is a process that exists to help you and your project be successful. We start with a discussion of the principles that underlie the EDP and why they are important to you as a committer. We then discuss the various processes that are in place to ensure that principles are maintained. More specifically, this talk discusses how the EDP will help you reach out to your community of users and adopters. It includes heavy discussion of community development, openness, transparency, IP cleanliness and more.

Total running time will be approximately 1 hour

9:00 am PST / 12:00 pm EST / 5:00 pm GMT - Convert to other time zones

Thanks to Adobe for contributing their Adobe Acrobat Connect product to host this webinar.

		<title>Write Once, Test Everywhere? Cross Platform Development and Testing with Eclipse</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/834</link>
		<description>

  Markus Tiede (Bredex)

	Abstract:

	  How platform independent are Eclipse applications in practice? This talk looks at some of the differences between operating systems supported by Eclipse with respect to RCP applications and examines their effects on usability, development and testing.

This webinar is aimed at developers, project managers and testers (automated and manual) working on RCP applications that are intended to run on more than one platform. Participants will learn about large and small differences between the platforms. Some of these differences must simply be considered in the development and testing process, others mean that testing, documentation and development are affected.

Some of the points raised include:

How widgets can behave differently on the platforms
Variation in the library support for each platform
Other GUI considerations such as tooltips, toolbars, buttons and focus

Automated testers will also benefit from the information and examples in the talk. Ideally, only one automated test should be necessary to test all versions of an application. Some of the differences between the platforms make this aim difficult, and some differences mean finding a lowest common denominator to be able to write tests. The variation between the platforms is therefore something which must be considered at the test planning stage, and in the test design itself.

Participants will learn to consider and deal with any variations between platforms to make cross-platform projects a success.

Total running time will be approximately 1 hour

8:00 am PST / 11:00 am EST / 4:00 pm GMT - Convert to other time zones

Thanks to Adobe for contributing their Adobe Acrobat Connect product to host this webinar.

		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/831</link>
		<description>

  Wayne Beaton (Eclipse Foundation)

	Abstract:

	  FOSSLC and the University of Ottawa&#039;s Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Student Branch hosted an Eclipse Bootcamp on October 8, 2009. Wayne Beaton from the Eclipse Foundation presented an Introduction to Eclipse and Mylyn.

This talk gives a general overview of Eclipse followed by some demos of the Mylyn project. Mylyn provides features for keeping track of bugs and tasks. Mylyn is even capable of reconfiguring your workspace based on the bug/task you are working on.

Thanks to FOSSLC for recording the Bootcamp presentations.

		<title>Reminder - Equinox above the Cloud - Some Call it Heaven! </title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/829</link>
		<description>

  Scott Lewis (EclipseSource), Markus Knauer (EclipseSource), Harald Kornmayer (NEC)

	Abstract:

	  Cloud computing is one of the hottest topics currently discussed in the IT sector. Although there are many different definitions of the term &#039;Cloud&#039;, providing remote services is at the center of Cloud computing. This webinar will demonstrate how &quot;goodies&quot; from different Eclipse projects can be combined to build applications on Cloud infrastructures.

Together, Equinox and OSGi provide a fundamental infrastructure for defining modules, managing lifecycles and facilitating collaboration between modules. Both are addressing the programming challenges in dynamic, modular and extensible systems.

The webinar will start with a short introduction to Cloud computing. Using the g-Eclipse framework, a distributed, virtual infrastructure will be set-up. Leveraging OSGi and ECF frameworks, a manageable distributed runtime will be started in order to deploy an application dynamically. The front end for the application will be provided with the support of the RAP application. The live demonstration will show how &quot;goodies&quot; from the Eclipse ecosystem can be combined to build a future SaaS platform.

Total running time will be approximately 1 hour

8:00 am PDT / 11:00 am EDT / 3:00 pm GMT - Convert to other time zones

Thanks to Adobe for contributing their Adobe Acrobat Connect product to host this webinar.
