		<title>Write Once, Test Everywhere? Cross Platform Development and Testing with Eclipse</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/834</link>
		<description>

  Markus Tiede (Bredex)

	Abstract:

	  How platform independent are Eclipse applications in practice? This talk looks at some of the differences between operating systems supported by Eclipse with respect to RCP applications and examines their effects on usability, development and testing.

This webinar is aimed at developers, project managers and testers (automated and manual) working on RCP applications that are intended to run on more than one platform. Participants will learn about large and small differences between the platforms. Some of these differences must simply be considered in the development and testing process, others mean that testing, documentation and development are affected.

Some of the points raised include:

How widgets can behave differently on the platforms
Variation in the library support for each platform
Other GUI considerations such as tooltips, toolbars, buttons and focus

Automated testers will also benefit from the information and examples in the talk. Ideally, only one automated test should be necessary to test all versions of an application. Some of the differences between the platforms make this aim difficult, and some differences mean finding a lowest common denominator to be able to write tests. The variation between the platforms is therefore something which must be considered at the test planning stage, and in the test design itself.

Participants will learn to consider and deal with any variations between platforms to make cross-platform projects a success.

Total running time will be approximately 1 hour

8:00 am PST / 11:00 am EST / 4:00 pm GMT - Convert to other time zones

Thanks to Adobe for contributing their Adobe Acrobat Connect product to host this webinar.

		<title>Provisioning RCP Applications with p2</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/789</link>
		<description>

  Ian Bull (EclipseSource)

	Abstract:

	  The p2 provisioning platform has replaced Update Manager as a mechanism for managing Eclipse based applications. While p2 is most notably recognized for managing Eclipse installs, p2 has been designed as a general purpose provisioning platform for OSGi and Eclipse RCP.

In this webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use p2 to manage your own RCP based application. We will present examples of how you can include the p2 provisioning platform in your existing RCP application to support: 1) software installs, 2) system upgrades, and 3) configuration management. In particular, we will demonstrate how you can:

Make use of the p2 provisioning platform for software management
Integrate the creation of p2 repositories into your build system
Reuse the p2 user interface and existing work-flows
Customize the p2 user interface for your specific needs
Debug common pitfalls

The webinar assumes a basic understanding of what RCP development is. No prior p2 experience is needed.

Part 1 - Total running time 29:03 minutes
Part 2 - Total running time 31:41 minutes

		<title>EclipseCon 09: Eclipse on Rails and Rockets</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/750</link>
		<description>

   Marc Hoffmann, Gilles J. Iachelini (CSC), Mark Powell (NASA)

	Abstract:

	  The Swiss Federal Railway and NASA team up to present how Eclipse RCP has made an impact on technical solutions for operations of railroads and robots.

SBB Infrastruktur operates the railway network with the highest utilization in the world: every day 9,000 trains travel on routes with an overall length of 3,000 km. From the beginning, the Eclipse IDE was used as the development platform - Eclipse RCP is the foundation of the RCS user interfaces. The first part of this talk is an Eclipse consumer story with a strong technical focus on railroad networks as well as some Eclipse RCP aspects of the project.

Since Eclipse 3.0, NASA has used the Rich Client Platform to build software tools to operate the Mars Exploration Rovers. The second part of this talk will give an overview of the many new projects that are enabled by the Eclipse platform and related technologies. We will discuss how NASA has used many Eclipse projects in its software tools including RCP, EMF, GEF, GMF, CDO, OSGi-ReST and the SWT-OpenGL binding. See how Eclipse is helping us explore worlds beyond our home planet.

This video was recorded at EclipseCon 2009.

		<title>EclipseCon 09: Mixing Eclipse Technologies to create Enterprise Ready Database-RCP-Frontends</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/742</link>
		<description>

  Tom Schindl (BestSolution)

	Abstract:

	  This talk will introduce the audience to available Eclipse technologies for writing extensible datacentric applications using Eclipse-RCP/EMF/CDO/. The talk explains how to:

 Make use of Eclipse databinding to reduce the amount of code needed to keep the model and ui in sync, in conjunction with EMF-Features like EditingDomain and much more
 Keep your application instances in sync with CDO
 Easily create their own observables for UI-Widget when no binding exists yet
 Use new databinding features introduced with Eclipse 3.4
 Add custom extension points to RCP-Applications
 Use new JFace-Viewer features introduced in 3.3 and 3.4

The demo code this talk is built around is already available to some extent (see Demo-Code) and a lot of this code is presented and explained in the talk.

This video was recorded at EclipseCon 2009.

		<title>Reminder - Test Driven Development Best Practices for Eclipse RCP</title>
		<link>http://live.eclipse.org/node/736</link>
		<description>

  Kevin Taylor (Obtiva)

	Abstract:

	  Leveraging good Test Driven Development (TDD) practices while writing rich client applications with Eclipse RCP is not only possible, it’s practical.

In this webinar, Kevin will review the basics of TDD and demonstrate the flow of writing great unit tests and then making them pass in an Eclipse RCP application. Topics will include TDD, JUnit, PDEUnit and MVP vs. MVC. (Material adapted from Kevin&#039;s highly-rated EclipseCon 2009 tutorial.)

Always remember: Red, Green, Refactor!

Total running time will be approximately 1 hour

9:00 am PDT / 12:00 pm EDT / 4:00 pm GMT - Convert to other time zones

Thanks to Adobe for contributing their Adobe Acrobat Connect product to host this webinar.
